You may have seen counselors in the past and not had a good experience. NOT ALL COUNSELLORS ARE CREATED EQUALLY! There are a variety of people out there providing counseling, with different approaches, education, skill levels, and personalities. You may have to try a couple different counselors before you find one that you feel you ‘click’ with, who also has the skills and experience to help you in your individual situation. You must also be willing to be honest, work on yourself and your own thinking and behavior (instead of focusing on other people and placing blame), and TRY NEW APPROACHES to the problems in your life. The counselor will help you identify those new approaches. BUT – If you don’t take medicine, it doesn’t make you better. Similarly, if you don’t take professional advice, it doesn’t have a chance of helping you. 🙂
