Acute Adult Inpatient Mental Health

Provide treatment for persons suffering from acute episodes of mental illness such as:
•psychosis
•major depression
•bipolar affective disorder
•delirium
•dementia
•generalized anxiety disorder
•adjustment disorders
•suicidal behaviors

Concurrent medical and /or psychiatric disorders such as:
•chronic neurological,
•pain
•other concurrent mental illnesses.

Treatment of patients offers an interdisciplinary opportunity for individual and group therapy, support, education, family conferences, medication assessment, and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) when appropriate. Treatment approach includes behavioral, pharmacological and psycho-social intervention.

Available to

Ages: 18 Years and Over

Patients from medical, surgical and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) areas at the University of Alberta Hospital are transferred to the inpatient units for assessments and continuity of care.

Referral needed

Patients must be assessed and referred by an admitting psychiatrist and require inpatient care.
