Help for Adults who are Unable to make Personal or Financial decisions.

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) helps individuals who are unable to make personal, non-financial decisions for themselves. The OPG does this through the Personal Directives Act, the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act and the Mental Health Act. The OPG also administers the Personal Directives Registry and the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Registry.

There are various levels of support available, including:

The Public Trustee is appointed by the Government to protect and manage the financial interests of vulnerable Albertans. The trust administrators, lawyers, taxation officers, auditors and support staff in the Office of the Public Trustee act on behalf of people with mental disabilities, administer the estates of deceased persons and protect the property interests of minors.
