The LOFT (Life Opportunities for Transition)

The John Howard Society’s LOFT program for youth offers:

  • Semi-independent housing
  • A shared living environment for 6 male youth
  • Transition Support Workers who guide residents to learn the skills they will need to live independently.
  • Opportunity to pay ‘rent’ that is saved for your transition to independent living.
  • Assistance in transition to the community, including help finding housing, connecting utilities, meeting basic needs.

Admissions Criteria (as of today, May 14 2014: please contact the LOFT to confirm any changes):

  • All applicants must apply on a voluntary basis
  • All applicants must be male, between the ages of 16-24
  • Must be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • Must be willing and able to work and/or attend school
  • Must be willing to share confidential information with house staff
  • Must be willing and able to follow house rules and expectations
  • Must not have a history of serious violent offences
  • Must not have an upcoming court date or an outstanding warrant
  • Must be committed to sobriety

  • Potential applicants will be asked to come in for an interview to determine suitability.
  • Those suitable will be placed on a waitlist until a bed becomes available.
  • Potential applicants may be asked for a second interview to check in regarding their status. 
  • Applicants are encouraged to connect with theREE*START Program while awaiting admission into The LOFT.
